that are not ripe or have gone bad? Well, today I'll be sharing with you some
knowledge on how to check the ripeness of fruits and also whether they have
gone bad.
Firstly, here
are how to check for the ripeness of some common fruits:
Bananas:
- Their skin changes color from green to yellow
- The skin will be more soft and tender.
Watermelon:
- Ripe melons have a hallow sound when you tap the outside
- The field spot (patch where the melon would have been on the ground) should be yellow instead of white.
Apple:
- When it is ripe, it should have a tight hard skin.
- Different types of apples varies in terms of color, so general knowledge of what that specific apple should be like is important.
Not only does a spoiled fruit have an awful taste, it will also endanger your health. So here are some tips on how to tell if a fruits has gone bad.
Banana:
- Usually bad bananas have a bad scent and will feel very soft and mushy.
- Avoid bananas with extensive browning or molds on its skins as it is most likely to be rotten inside.
Watermelon:
- A watermelon with mold or dark brown/black spots indicates that it is rotten.
- Cut the watermelon to check for any slime or discoloration. If there is a sour or foul odor.
Apple:
- If the apple had mold, it should be thrown out immediately.
- If the apple has holes from insects, the exposed flesh inside of the apple is likely to have molded.
- Check for dehydration, it should not be hard like a rock.
- A decomposing apple will be soft and squishy.
